Since our inception in 1885, our headquarters and main production facility has been located in Battle Creek, Michigan. And, although much has changed since those early days, the fundamentals have not. Today, Union Pump products are used throughout the world. As one of the employers of choice in the area, we are able to attract and retain the kind of quality people needed to remain a leader. This stability, this corporate personality, has guided this company for over 100 years. And it shows in everything we do from design and engineering to production and service.
We continue to improve our production methods by employing comprehensive Six Sigma, and TQM strategies internally and meeting ISO-9001 specifications globally. We are refining our systems to further our record of success. We believe that achieving continuous improvement requires a commitment to the business.
Implementation of the latest processes, technologies, and CNC machines is a continuing venture to ensure that you receive the highest quality products. Our most recent investments are three new heavy duty state of the art machining centers purchased and installed in 1999. They include one Monarch V150B vertical machining center and two Toyoda FA800 horizontal machining centers with pallet changers. All three machining centers were selected because of their heavy duty construction and improved accuracy while incorporating high cutting rates.  The process focus for these centers and our computerized tool management system is to machine parts complete from raw material, reducing process throughput time and allowing one off manufacturing while increasing productivity as much as thirty five percent. Improved quality is achieved through improved surface finishes and highly consistent dimensional integrity.
The financial investment is substantial, yet the superior accuracy, consistency, and production throughput are fundamental to our goals. An aggressive pursuit of excellence and a flexible response to customer needs are the platforms for success. And these have been the driving principles at Union Pump since its beginning. And while these qualities are important to our story, we recognize that they are vital to the concerns of our customers.
